The Institute of Carpenters examinations
The Institute of Carpenters is the only organisation in the UK to offer practical and theoretical examinations in woodworking skills and supervisory and management techniques on an annual basis.
A Foundation Certificate is available to students who are still at school or attending college, and four further levels are offered: Intermediate, Licentiate (LIOC), Membership (MIOC), and Fellowship (FIOC).
The examinations are designed to meet the needs of the 21st century and are continually updated to meet changes in materials and technology, as well as supervisory and management techniques. They provide practitioners in the field with independent recognition of their skills and experience as well as the prestige of being associated with the high standards demanded by the Institute of Carpenters.
Institute members work throughout the United Kingdom as assessors, verifiers and judges for the Institute of Carpenters’ examinations, as well as those of other awarding bodies such as the City and Guilds of London Institute and the Construction Industries Training Board (CITB).
